The Woodlawn Baptist Church Food Pantry provides food and groceries to eligible residents of the Woodlawn and Fairlawn neighborhoods of Pawtucket and neighboring Central Falls. Applications are taken and food is given to anyone in need. One of nearly 300 programs in the network of partner agencies serving the food needs of struggling Rhode Islanders, the Food Pantry at Woodlawn is open late evenings three Wednesdays a month from 4:30 to 6:15 P. M. (except August). Two forms of identification are required to receive food. Groceries are obtained from a variety of sources: Monetary and Food Donations from Local Groups and Organizations, Individuals and Families Food Drives Undertaken by Woodlawns Pioneer Club Food purchased with government checks from Federal Emergency Management Agencys (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter (EFS) Program from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank (RICFB) Produce and Bread donated by RICFB. Staffed by volunteers, in the last calendar year 20,258 pounds of food were distributed to an accumulated total of 1,231 households, providing them with a total of 3,693 meals. The amount of food distributed has more than doubled in just three years. During Lent and the Holy Season culminating in Easter, the Food Pantry staff prepares and serves a Wednesday evening Bread and Broth meal to those families assisted by the Food Pantry. In November, the staff hosts an annual Thanksgiving Supper attended by 50 to 60 individuals. Between 80 and 90 households also receive a complete Thanksgiving meal in holiday baskets distributed in late November.
